Strive To Improve

Welcome to Appin Public School

Appin Public School is a small, semi-rural school located between Wollongong and Campbelltown. The school has historical significance, established in 1867, and boasts a combination of traditional and modern buildings, including a permanent brick library and hall which will be completed in 2010.

Appin Public School, like most schools, strives to provide a high quality education within a safe and caring setting. The school is recognised for its strong focus on developing and tracking students’ literacy and numeracy skills and staff regularly update their skills in this area.

Many of the classes at Appin P.S are composite classes (typically students from 2 grades are grouped in the same class). The school has a dedicated staff, skilled in meeting the diverse needs of students, which range from students who are gifted through to those with learning difficulties and disabilities.

A wide range of extra-curricula opportunities are offered, such as Dance, Band, Choir and Public Speaking. Students are provided with many sporting opportunities and often excel, competing at Zone and Regional level.

Students are encouraged to respect the rights of others and to take responsibility for their actions and behaviours. What is unique is that Appin Public School feels like a little country school. The 200 students are well behaved and care about each other. It has a very involved and interested parent community. The school has a proactive approach to student welfare and an educative approach to discipline. Our school has just begun to implement the PBIS program (Positive Behaviour Intervention Strategies) which compliments our approach to discipline.

The staff are dedicated and caring professionals who welcome parent involvement which is encouraged at a variety of levels. The school is fortunate to have an active and supportive parent community who assist in many areas of school life. The P&C run a market in the school grounds on the second Sunday of the month. The markets and a number of other successful fundraising events have enabled the P&C to make an extensive financial contribution to the school. Thanks to the support of the community, our school is well resourced with modern facilities and equipment that support quality educational programs.

Technology is an integral tool in teaching and learning programs throughout the school. All teachers use computers, the internet and Interactive Whiteboards as tools to promote student learning and engagement in their classrooms. All classes have an Interactive Whiteboard with 6 computers in each room. The school also has a wonderful well resourced Library and computer lab of 32 computers.
